MODE OF ADMISSION
Students are admitted into the Akwa Ibom State College of Science and Technology for any of her listed programmes through JAMB and Direct Entry based mainly on merit and by ranking of the entry qualifications candidates.
Candidates for admission are required to possess the minimum entry requirements as stipulated by the College. Prospective candidates are therefore advised to study the requirements carefully and ensure they meet both the general and departmental requirements before applying for admissions. Application for admission is available for the full-time programmes for Higher National Diploma (HND) , National Diploma (ND), Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB), Consultancy programmes and Senior School Certificate (SSCE) programmes in the College.
The Higher National Diploma (HND)
The Higher National Diploma (HND) is a two year full time programme. Students who successfully completed the National Diploma programme will be required to gain at least one-year relative post ND working experience in a recognised industry establishment before they can apply for admission into the Higher National Diploma.
The National Diploma (ND)
The National Diploma (ND) is a two year full time programme. Candidates are admitted into the College for the National Diploma programme through one of the following qualifications:
a. A comfortable UTME cut off point as may be pecked by JAMB and the College from time to time is a major prerequisite.
b. WAEC/NECO Senior School Certificate e or its equivalent with credit passes in five subjects relevant to the programme obtained at not more than two sittings. Alongside with a good JAMB result.
c. A pass at the final examination of the Pre-ND of the Akwa Ibom State College of Science and Technology, Nung Ukim Ikono.
The Pre-National Diploma Programme
This programme is designed to last one academic session. On successful completion and subject to availability of vacancies, students will be allowed to proceed to the approved National Diploma (ND) programmes. Passes in WAEC/NECO Senior School Certificate or its equivalent in English Language, Mathematics, and any other two/three of the following subjects: Economics, Business methods, Principles o Account, Literature in English, Commerce, History/Government, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, and any other subjects dependent on the programme.
The IJMB Programme
This is a one year intensive programme leading to the award of the Interim National Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Certificate, and equivalent of a Higher School Certificate or Advanced Level General Certificate of Education. Students on this Programme are expected to select three (3) subjects from the List of approved subjects in the Sciences, Social Sciences, and Arts, or a combination of these for the IJMB Examination. Graduates of this programme are offered direct admission into 200 levels in any University in the Country or outside the country, in their preferred courses.
Candidates for IJMB programme are required to poses five (5) credits in WAEC/NECO Senior School Certificate or its equivalent, three (3) of which must be in line with the combinable subjects relevant to the candidates’ intended course of study in the University. Candidates with deficiency in English Language or Mathematics are given the opportunity to remedy.
The Remedial Programme
This is a one year intensive programme for students who could not make the required credits at first sitting in the Senior School Certificate Examination. They are brought together, intensively groomed and presented for the WAEC/NECO Senior School Certificate Examination. Experience has shown that more than 80% of students on this programme smile home with good certificates yearly.
The Consultancy Programme
The Consultancy programme is a one-year intensive programme for students who wish to be trained on skill acquisition like ICT and others. It is a specialised programme for students and working professionals who wished to up their skills. Admission qualification is dependent on the choice of programme for each candidate.
